1. 6TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE ON COMMUNICATION AND ENVIRONMENT
July 27-31, 2001, Cincinnati, OH
The Center for Environmental Communication Studies and the Department of
Communication at the University of Cincinnati are calling for papers for the
6th Biennial Conference on Communication and Environment. The theme of the
conference is communication and public participation in environmental
decision making: advances in theory and practice. The deadline for receipt
of submissions is March 1, 2001. Specific submission information and topics

2. 2000/2001 LEARNING CENTER GRANTS PROGRAM
Educators and youth group leaders are invited to apply to the Eastern New
England Council of Hostelling International - American Youth Hostels
(HI-AYH) 2000-2001 Learning Center Grants Program. The program, now in its
fifth year, is designed to give young people a chance to travel and learn in
the dynamic, international atmosphere of a hostel. Funding is available for
trips to hostels in Conway, NH; Boston, MA; Nantucket Island, MA; and Martha
's Vineyard, MA. The deadline for submitting applications is November 3.

4. COMMUNITY ACTION PROBLEM SOLVING (CAPS) PROGRAM TRAINING
Earth Force offers local training in the Community Action Problem Solving
(CAPS) program. CAPS combines environmental education, service learning and
civic action into one framework that engages youth to create
lasting environmental change in their communities. Local Earth Force offices
provide teachers in eight communities around the country with the training
and
support to implement the framework in classrooms, after-school programs,
school clubs and other educational settings. Go to:

5. EISENHOWER NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE (ENC) ONLINE
The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) has recently launched an all-new
web site, ENC Online, at http://enc.org. ENC, established by the U.S.
Department of Education, focuses on K-12 math and science education. The
content on ENC Online has been organized into four major categories -
Curriculum Resources, Web Links, Professional Resources, and
Topics.

6. ASSOCIATION FOR SUPERVISION AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT (ASCD) CONFERENCE
ON TEACHING & LEARNING
October 22-24, Tampa, Florida
ASCD's annual conference will focus on the most common questions asked about
standards and developing a shared understanding of standards. Over 50
speakers and 80 sessions will explore the depth and breadth of standards and
their effects on schools and students.

7. NAAEE AFFILIATES OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION IN SOUTH PADRE
October 17, South Padre Island, Texas
Organizations in the Affiliate Partnership are invited to participate in the
opening night Welcome Table event at the upcoming NAAEE conference on South
Padre Island. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 17th from 6
to7 pm, during the President's reception, in the main foyer of the
headquarters hotel. Participating Associations are encouraged to bring
50 -100 copies of their organization's newsletters and brochures. After the
opening night event, all remaining EE Association information will be put
out for distribution at the Affiliate Partnership welcome table and in the
