1. APPLIED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION - CALL FOR PAPERS

Applied Environmental Education and Communication is an international
peer-reviewed quarterly for both academics and practitioners that features
articles, a discussion and editorial section, and books and materials
reviews. The journal seeks to advance a synergistic relationship between
research and practical information to help readers solve real environmental
problems. Authors are encouraged to report what did not work as well as what
did work and make suggestions for future strategies. This multidisciplinary
journal is written in a straightforward style with a minimum of technical
jargon.

The journal is currently accepting articles for the preview issue that will
be published in the fall of 2001. The deadline for articles and reports is
January 20, 2001. Please send queries, questions and short items for use in
the News and Notes section to: AEEC@xxxxxxx

2. LOCAL ENVIRONMENT

Local Environment is an international refereed journal which focuses on
local environmental and sustainability policy, politics and action. The

sustainability based both on critical research and practical experience.
The Editors welcome articles and viewpoint and response columns related to
local environmental and sustainability policy, practice and politics, with a
focus upon 'the local' as the driving force behind policy in a regional,
national and international context.

5. EVERGLADES RESTORATION ACT

The U.S. Congress overwhelmingly passed landmark legislation on November 3rd
that will provide $1.4 billion to begin a 30-year effort to restore the
Florida Everglades, one of the largest environmental restoration projects in
history. The measure, part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2000
(S. 2796), which provides $8 billion for dozens of water construction
projects, is waiting to be signed by President Clinton. The restoration
project, which will be jointly paid for by Florida and the federal
government, aims to undo 50 years of damage caused by building canals,
levees, and pumping stations to open up land for development and agriculture
and decrease the risk of floods. The plan is broadly supported by
environmentalists, agriculture interests, Indian tribes, and politicians on
both sides of the aisle.
