1. GROUNDWATER FOUNDATION FALL CONFERENCE - CALL FOR PRESENTERS
November 14-16, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The goal of the conference, "Today's Technology Protecting Tomorrow's
Groundwater," is to introduce new technologies and help citizens and
professionals protect groundwater more effectively and with less resources.
The Groundwater Foundation invites presentations on relevant research,
innovative uses of technology, on-the-ground use of technological tools,
and case studies of the use of technology by community groups to protect
groundwater.

2. BROWER YOUTH AWARD

A program of Earth Island Institute, the Brower Youth Awards will recognize
innovative leadership efforts across an ethnic, geographic, and nonpartisan
cross-section of young people, from thirteen to twenty-two years old.  The
prizes will highlight projects ranging from campus organizing to habitat
restoration to neighborhood clean up of toxins and will be awarded at a
gala celebration in Berkeley, CA.  Founded in 2000 in honor of David R.
Brower, the awards give $3000 annually to six environmental heroes.

3. TIFFANY & CO. FOUNDATION
The mission of this newly established Foundation is to support 501 (c) (3)
non-profit organizations with monetary gifts to support the arts and
environmental conservation efforts.  Recent recipients of funds from the
Tiffany & CO Foundation include the Wildlife Conservation Society and the
Fresh Air Fund.

4. CLEAN EFFICIENT AUTOMOBILES RESULTING FROM ADVANCED CAR TECHNOLOGIES
(CLEAR ACT) ACT OF 2001

Introduced on April 24th by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the CLEAR ACT  (S.
760) amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage and accelerate
the nationwide production, retail sale, and consumer use of new motor
vehicles that are powered by fuel cell technology, hybrid technology,
battery electric technology, alternative fuels, or other advanced motor
vehicle technologies.  Co-sponsors include Sens. John D. Rockefeller (D-W.
Va.), James Jeffords (R-Vt.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine).

6. CANADIAN NETWORK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION MEETING
July 18-20, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

The Seventh annual meeting of the Canadian Network for Environmental
Education and Communication, "Telling Our Stories," will link themes
central to the "northerness" of the conference location and the teaching
and learning of traditional forms of communication.  The conference strands
are environmental education with a northern flavor, narrative and research.

7. THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

The theme of the conference is "Sustainable Development: Fact or Dream, Ten
Years After The Rio Summit."  Major topics to be addressed include:

8. UNDERSTANDING WISCONSIN FORESTREE
June 19-21, Amherst Junction, Wisconsin

The Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (a field station of the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) presents "Understanding Wisconsin
Forestree," helping to bridge the Gap between economy and environment.
This three day outdoor institute will provide Middle School and Secondary
educators with a 10-lesson, multidisciplinary forestry curriculum and
instruction on how to implement it in the classroom.  Meals, lodging,
resources, and program provided FREE by grant funds.

9. THE NATURAL HISTORY AND CONSERVATION OF FLORIDA TURTLES
June 12-15 and 26-29, Florida

This four-day workshop introduces educators to the diversity, natural
history, status, conservation, and management of Florida turtles.
Participants learn basic identification, causes of decline, and
conservation measures, as well as activities and resources for use in the
classroom.  Highlights include field trips to upland, riverine, and coastal
habitats.

The workshops are scheduled for Boyd Hill Nature Park, St. Petersburg, FL
(12-15 June) and Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve,

10. REACHING OUT: BROADENING COLLEGE-STUDENT CONSTITUENCIES FOR
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

"Reaching Out" examines the results of a survey conducted last March of 763
non-activist college students across the United States by the Institute for
Global Ethics, in collaboration with the Gallup Organization. The survey's
data provide insight into the relationship between college non-activist's
core values and their attitudes toward environmental issues, and outlines
implications for the environmental community in shaping messages to draw

11. GALLUP POLL ON THE ENVIRONMENT

A Gallup poll released on April 18th reviews American's attitudes on the
environment, comparing current responses with data dating back more than 10
years for some questions.  The results show that Americans favor
environmental protections over energy drilling and economic growth, and
that the public does not agree with the Bush administration's decision not
to adhere to the Kyoto treaty on global warming.

12. FOR MY WORLD

Environmental Defense and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) have
launched a new non-commercial web site that delivers detailed, zipcode
specific environmental information for every community in America.  This
information focuses on pollution, recycling, gardening and nature.  Other
resources include daily news summaries, information on energy and climate
change, and discussion forums.

13. WETLANDS EDUCATION THROUGH MAPS AND AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY (WETMAAP)

WETMAAP uses a geographic approach that combines aerial photography,
topographic maps, and manual & computerized Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) for wetland habitat assessment. Educational resources for middle
school - Junior High students include lesson plans (correlated to National
Learning Standards), slide shows, assessment tools and resources for
teachers.

14. YOURSKY

YourSky is a virtual planetarium. Visitors to the site can use the Sky Map
to produce astronomical maps by entering time and date, viewpoint, and
observing location (latitude/longitude, ascension/declination, or city).
The Virtual Telescope helps you to track comets and asteroids, and Horizon
Views returns views of the stars above the horizon as seen from a specified
observing site at a given date and time. Full explanations of map colors
and symbols are provided, along with links to related programs.

15. GUIDELINES FOR EXCELLENCE IN EE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!

Access to eight cutting-edge resources that set the standard for high
quality and professional environmental education are now just a mouse click
away! The guidelines, developed by the National Project for Excellence in
Environmental Education (NPEEE), represent a broad and accepted consensus
on what constitutes good EE and will help educators develop comprehensive
environmental education programs that integrate across and build upon the
high standards set by the core disciplines.  The Guidelines for Excellence

The North American Association for Environmental Education was instrumental
in the development of the Guideline series with funding provided by U.S.
EPA's Office of Environmental Education through the Environmental Education
and Training Partnership (EETAP).  The Audubon Society was also helpful in
