1. ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - CALL FOR PAPERS
Environment and Sustainable Development: An International Journal is a new
referred journal published by Inderscience. Paper submissions are now being
accepted on topics such as: environmental policies and politics,
environmental legislation, water and energy related issues, sustainability,
and sustainable development approaches and methods. The first issue of
Environment and Sustainable Development is due out in early 2002.

2. AMERICAN COMMUNITY GARDENING ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE - CALL FOR
PRESENTATIONS
September 7-9, Salt Lake City, Utah
The theme of this year's conference is "Pioneering Self-Reliance,
Conservation and Leadership Through Community Gardening." The conference
will include panel discussions, keynote speakers, hands-on workshops, and
visits to Utah's unique botanical sites and community gardens. Individuals
and organizations involved with community gardens, open space, landscape
design /architecture, urban planning, forestry, programs aiding in
conservation, youth, development / leadership or municipal partnerships are
invited to submit presentation proposals.

3. WATERSHED ASSISTANCE GRANTS PROGRAM (WAG)
The primary purpose of the WAG program is to support the growth and
sustainability (i.e. organizational capacity) of local watershed
partnerships in the United States. For the purpose of this program, a
"watershed partnership" is defined as an inclusive, enduring, diverse,
community-based group organized to identify and resolve watershed problems
and issues. This year grants will range from $1,500 to $30,000.

4. THE NATIONAL TREE TRUST - GROWING TOGETHER
Interested in starting your own indoor arboretum or forest in a classroom
this fall? The National Tree Trust's Growing Together program is now
accepting applications for the 2001-2002 school year. Through Growing
Together (GT), students and educators can grow trees from seeds. The
National Tree Trust provides grow containers, activity guides, and a
monetary allotment to jump-start the program for grades K-6.

your full name and address) or download the application from the National
Tree Trust website. Applicants must work with a minimum of 250 students and
complete a brief evaluation at the end of the traditional school year.

5. ECONOMIC GROWTH AND TAX RELIEF RECONCILIATION ACT OF 2001
President Bush signed the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act
of 2001 (H.R. 1836) into law on June 7th. The House adopted the budget
reconciliation conference report May 26th with a 240-154 vote, and the
Senate cleared it hours later by a margin of 58-33. The legislation provides
for across-the-board tax cuts, tax relief for married couples, repeal of the
estate tax and doubling of the $500 per-child tax credit. It also provides
for $300 rebates to be mailed to taxpayers beginning July 20th.

6. BILL MOYERS REPORTS: EARTH ON EDGE
Journalist Bill Moyers travels the globe to report on the impact of the
human species on Earth, probing two of the most critical questions of the
new century: What is happening to Earth's capacity to support the human
species and civilization? And, what can we do about it? Earth on Edge
premieres on PBS June 19th at 8 p.m. ET and is also available on video from

7. PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN EPA DECISIONS
July 10-20, Online
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is convening an online public
discussion on improving public involvement in EPA decision-making. The
Dialogue will be based on the EPA's newly drafted Public Involvement Policy.
Join interested citizens, representatives of industry, environmental groups,
small businesses, states, local governments, tribes, and other groups to
learn more about the draft policy and to share your thoughts and concerns
regarding how EPA should implement this policy.

8. MINNESOTA ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE: LIVING ON THE EDGE
August 8-9, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Moorhead, Minnesota
Minnesota is Living on the Edge of: a new millennium, new technologies, a
new age of information, education reform, urban sprawl and the edge of
several ecosystems. Environmental educators, teachers, professionals, and
concerned citizens are invited to join the Minnesota Association for
Environmental Education in beautiful Moorhead, Minnesota for two days of
environmental education learning and discussions on where Minnesota is

9. LEOPOLD EDUCATION PROJECT - NATIONAL WORKSHOP
August 17-19, Upham Woods 4H Center, Wisconsin Dells, WI
The Leopold Education Project's 6th Annual LEP National Workshop is
scheduled for August 17-19. For those who are not yet trained in the LEP
materials there is also an LEP Educator training on August 16th at the same
site. In addition to hands on sessions and seminars, the National Workshop
includes a trip to the Leopold family Shack and exploration of the "Sand
County" region.

10. NAAEE NATIONAL CONFERENCE - A WALK THROUGH TIME
October 11-15, Little Rock, Arkansas
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of NAAEE, the Association is putting
together an interpretive "Walk through Time" at this year's national
conference. The 2001 Conference Planning Committee is looking for the

11. SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTAL CLUBS IN WISCONSIN: 2000 AND BEYOND
This 117-page booklet contains a wealth of information on steps for starting
or revitalizing a school environmental club, ideas for environmental
involvement with your group, and lists of resources for environmental
education. Also included is a directory of 75 K-12 school environmental
clubs in Wisconsin with summaries of club activities and plans. Most of the
information is applicable to student environmental clubs anywhere!

12. EXPLORATIONS FROM AN AERIAL PERSPECTIVE
The EAP package consists of two manuals: (1) A Program Manual - some 200
pages of text, designed to be used by educators. Contains background on the
program, 9 chapters of subject matter content, exercises, case studies and a
resource packet (set of stereo aerial photographs, portion of topographic
map that accompanies the photos, the USGS topographic map symbol sheet and a
land use/land cover classification system.) (2) A Student Workbook - some 30
pages, designed for use with students. Contains all exercises found in the
Program Manual, ready for copying and ten resource packets.

13. TEACHING THE WORLD ABOUT WOLVES
Grey Wolves, Grey Matter is a new online curriculum for grades 6- 12
developed by the International Wolf Center. The curriculum comes in two
parts: a web-based project and a teacher's activity guide. Both the
web-based project and the activity guide cover concepts in science, math and
social studies. Gray Wolves, Gray Matter fulfills components of the
Minnesota graduation standards and environmental literacy outcomes from the
GreenPrint for Minnesota.

14. EETAP NEWSLETTER
This debut edition of the official monthly electronic newsletter of the
Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) contains
information about recent EETAP accomplishments, events, and news. EETAP is
a consortium of organizations lead by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point and funded by U.S. EPA's Office of Environmental Education. EETAP's
mission is to support the delivery of professional training for teachers,
environmental protection agency staff, park and nature center employees, and
others who provide EE programs for people of all ages to improve student
learning and promote a healthy, sustainable environment.
