1. INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT - REQUEST FOR
PROPOSALS
May 21-25, 2002, University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
The International Children's Conference on the Environment will bring
together 800 children (10-12 years old) from over 115 countries. The
children will be making presentations on personal environmental
initiatives, with the help of adult facilitators, and participating in
educational workshops and fieldtrips. Fieldtrip and workshop proposals are
due October 1st.

2. LEAGUE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATORS IN FLORIDA (LEEF) - CALL FOR
PRESENTATIONS
April 4-7, 2002, Ellenton, Florida
The theme of LEEF's 2002 conference is "Walking the Talk: Fostering
Sustainable Behavior." The purpose of the conference will be to showcase
examples of sustainable practices and behaviors, and to promote discussion
between educators and organizations that represent examples of sustainable
living. Presentation proposals are invited in the areas of sustainable
practices and behaviors, Science content and environmental education tools.

3. WATER RESOURCES INSTITUTE CONFERENCE - CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
October 18-19, California State University, San Bernardino, California
The working theme of the WRI conference is "Sharing the Waters." The
conference will explore the varied interests for water use in California,
including urban water uses, agricultural water uses, in-stream uses,
recreational uses, habitat restoration, and power generation. Sessions are
planned to discuss the ecology of shared watersheds and ongoing
partnerships that share Santa Ana River water.

4. YOUTH IN WILDERNESS - CORRECTION
The Youth in Wilderness Project has recently been expanded to include
projects in Arizona and Colorado in addition to California. YIW funds
projects in schools, after-school programs, outdoor schools, and other
nonprofit organizations that provide outdoor learning and wilderness
opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth.

5. THE CURTIS & EDITH MUNSON FOUNDATION
The Munson Foundation promotes the conservation of natural resources in
North America and the Caribbean Basin with an emphasis on the United
States.
Funded program areas include Marine resource conservation and management,
South Florida Ecosystems, and Alabama environmental issues. Grants range
from $10,000-$80,000.
Letters of inquiry are due August 31st, with proposals due October 5th.

6. THE SECURING AMERICA'S FUTURE ENERGY ("SAFE") ACT OF 2001 - UPDATE
The House passed the omnibus energy act H.R. 4 on August 2nd with a 240-189
vote. Amendments to the bill that were passed included H.AMDT.287 (411-15),
to establish in EPA a renewable energy "partnership" program, and
H.AMDT.297 (228-201), to limit exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge to 2,000 of the 1.5 million acres. Amendments that were defeated
included H.AMDT.288 (160-269), to increase CAFÉ standards and H.AMDT.298
(206-223), to maintain existing protection of the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge by striking language that would permit energy development in the
Refuge.

7. 2001 MIDWEST ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE
October 19-21, Camp Lake, Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education (WAEE) is proud to
host this year's Midwest EE Conference - " Recharging Your Double E:
Energizing Your Environmental Education Influence." Keynotes include Judy
Braus of World Wildlife Fund and David Sobel of Antioch University. A
recent addition is the Kratt Brothers, creators and hosts of PBS's Kratt's
Creatures and Zoboomafoo. The four unique tracks involve leadership
development, naturalist techniques, energy education, and environmental

8. SOCIETY FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF CHICANOS AND NATIVE AMERICANS IN SCIENCE
(SACNAS) AND K-12 TEACHER WORKSHOPS
September 27-30, Phoenix, Arizona
The SACNAS National Conference provides a forum for students, faculty and
professionals in science and education to share research, address the
unique accomplishments and challenges of minorities in science, form
networks of mentors and colleagues, and gain access to educational and
career opportunities. SACNAS is an advocate for minority students and
professionals to obtain advanced degrees and to become national leaders in
science research, policy and education.

9. EARTH SYSTEMS SCIENCE COURSE FOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Begins September 17th
A 16-week graduate course for High School teachers on Earth Systems Science
developed at the Center for Educational Technologies, Wheeling Jesuit
University and sponsored by NASA. Teachers participating in the High School
ESS course will engage in a collaborative, inquiry-based electronic
environment, team with fellow teachers, analyze the impact of Earth events
on spheres, develop Earth systems models, research Problem Based Learning
(PBL), and create ESS and PBL activities to use in their classrooms.
The cost of the course is $100.00, which includes ESS reference books,
CD-ROMs and Activity Guides. Graduate credit will also be available. For

10. RAINFOREST AND MARINE ECOLOGY FIELD COURSES
Rainforest and Reef offers Rainforest and Marine Ecology Field Courses
in ten countries. Local Guides and Biologists are featured in the study
of rainforest and marine ecology, medicinal uses of native plants,
conservation, land management, local cultures, archaeology, and geology.
Program participants include University and High School groups, as well as
independent participants. Credits available through Aquinas College.

11. GLOBAL RIVERS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION NETWORK (GREEN)
Earth Force GREEN has launched a new, interactive resource allowing users
to:
* Enter, analyze and share the watershed data they collect;
* Access interactive maps, calendars, guides and resources;
* Download classroom activities;
* Keep an ongoing project log to track progress made towards solving a
watershed problem; and,
* Share pictures and stories of your group in action.
Local watershed organizations can partner with Earth Force GREEN to create
customized web pages where they can track the progress of water monitors

12. THINK EARTH
The Think Earth Environmental Education Foundation has just released a new
and improved web site and interactive database. The new site enables Think
Earth to coordinate the work of environmental educators and members of
school-based environmental clubs, and promote the use of high quality
environmental education materials. Environmental education organizations,
clubs, students (6-12), and educators are invited to register with the
Think Earth database free of charge and become a part of the Think Earth
network.
Site features include peer reviews of EE materials, an online calendar of
events, a searchable database of EE organizations, programs and clubs, and
a new site design.

13. ENVIROMAPPER
The EnviroMapper application provides users with interactive Geographic
Information System (GIS) functionality using Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) spatial data. It can map various types of environmental
information, including air releases, drinking water, toxic releases,
hazardous wastes, water discharge permits, and Superfund sites. Create
maps at the national, state, and county levels, and link them to
environmental text reports.

14. EPA GLOBAL WARMING SITE - EDUCATORS
The Educators' section of this EPA site links to materials that educators
and outreach professionals can use in presentations and classroom
activities on climate change science, potential impacts, and mitigation
options. Tools include a Greenhouse Gas Calculator, a Global Warming Wheel
Card for presentations, case studies, and interactive software to measure
energy consumption, impact and reduction opportunities.

15. NAAEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE - AUCTIONS *
