1. Y6B AND BEYOND: THE IMPACT OF THE GROWING POPULATION OF PLANET EARTH -
CALL FOR PRESENTERS
December 5, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point
The theme for the 11th Annual High School Environmental Action Conference is
human population growth, focusing on the environmental impacts of the Earth'
s 6 billion inhabitants. Presenters and exhibitors are currently being
sought to address the issues surrounding population growth - students are
encouraged to participate. Example issues include sustainable living, loss
of habitat, and the quality and quantity of the natural resources that we
rely on.

2. NWF CAMPUS ECOLOGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM - REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Fellowship Program offers a
nationally recognized opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to
pursue their vision of an ecologically sustainable future. Through tangible
projects to green their campuses and communities, Fellows gain practical
experience in the conservation field and first-hand knowledge of the
challenges and opportunities inherent in conservation efforts. Fellows also
receive project support, a modest grant and recognition of their
accomplishments.
Application Deadline: September 15th and November 15th. Grant guidelines,
application forms, the 2000-2001 Fellows' project descriptions, sample
winning proposals and project ideas are available online at:

4. 2001 KANSAS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE
November 2-3, Great Bend, Kansas
Registration information for the 2001 Kansas Environmental Education
Conference, "Rediscovering Our Natural Resources through Environmental
Education," is now available. Keynote speakers include Stan Herd,
international earthworks artist, and John Altman and Aimee Larrabee,
producers of the PBS film "Last Stand of the Tallgrass Prairie." Concurrent
sessions, field trips, silent auction, chuckwagon dinner, and more await
conference goers. A pre-conference workshop, Introduction to Migratory
Birds at the Cheyenne Bottoms, will be held Thursday, November 1st. For

5. SHAPING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: BEST PRACTICES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
November 1-4, du Bois Conference Center, Northern Arizona University,
Flagstaff, Arizona
Second Nature's Southwest Regional Workshop will highlight exciting
sustainability activities occurring at colleges and universities around the
southwest. The theme of this workshop is Dynamically Integrated Communities.
Speakers and "Best Practices" presentations in conjunction with workgroups
and roundtables are designed to help participants explore the opportunities
and challenges faced when making sustainability a core institutional
principle at colleges and universities.

6. GEOGRAPHY ACTION! RIVERS 2001
Geography Action! is an annual conservation and awareness program, sponsored
by the National Geographic Society, designed to educate and excite people
about our natural, cultural, and historic treasures. This year's theme is
Rivers, and includes online resources for K-12 educators and students.

7. WHAT'S UP WITH OUR NATION'S WATERS?
A new publication from the Environmental Protection Agency for 10-15 year
olds based on findings from the National Water Quality Inventory. The
publication includes information on water quality and water quality testing,
science projects, a water quiz, glossary, and a list of resources for more
information. The booklet can be downloaded from the EPA's website [pdf] and
hard copies can be ordered from EPA's National Service Center for
Environmental Publications at 1-800-490-9198 (publication # EPA
841-F-00-005).

8. EARTH FORCE AFTER SCHOOL
Earth Force is launching a new program this fall called Earth Force After
School (EFAS). EFAS is an innovative, new program that enables young people
to identify a local environmental problem and then enact a lasting solution
to that problem. The program uses the award-winning Earth Force community
action and problem-solving process to create an interactive, after-school
experience for youth. EFAS offers a comprehensive, step-by-step kit for
after-school leaders as well as training and ongoing program support.

9. NAAEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE - AFFILIATE WORKSHOP*
October 11-12, Little Rock, Arkansas
The focus of the 2001 pre-conference workshop is "Unlocking Keys to
Sustainability." A history of accomplishments of the affiliates and
affiliate partnerships will be built, affiliate sustainability will be
examined, and affiliate alliances with NAAEE will be built. This participant
focused workshop will appeal to new and returning affiliate board members
and general affiliate members in the quest to promote organizational
sustainability.
The NAAEE Pre-Conference Workshop is free to NAAEE Affiliated organizations
that have registered for the NAAEE Conference. Workshop registration
