1. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SUSTAINABILITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION - CALL FOR
PAPERS
The International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education (IJSHE)
invites college and university students involved in environmental
sustainability initiatives in higher education to submit case studies for
publication in a Special Student edition. Specifically IJSHE encourages the
submission of student-initiated case studies that address environmental
management systems, sustainable development and Agenda 21 issues at higher
education institutions, curriculum greening and methodological approaches to
sustainability, environmental activism on campus, initiatives aimed at
environmental improvements in universities, and the increased
competitiveness of self-regulatory mechanisms such as environmental auditing
and maintaining EMS.
Submissions will be accepted between March 1st and June 15th. All

2. AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE - CALL FOR
PAPERS
July 2-6 - Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia
The 11th biennial conference of the Australian Association for Environmental
Education, "Sustaining Environmental Education: Celebrating Diversity,"
will provide an opportunity for environmental educators from universities,
national parks, pre-schools and schools, private industry and government
agencies to take part in presentations and workshops that celebrate our
diversity as educators and that offer us ways of sustaining ourselves in our
work. Sub-themes include: Foundations of Environmental Education,
Environmental Education at the Cutting Edge, and Creating and Sustaining
Diversity and Sustaining Ourselves.

3. NAAEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE - CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND REVIEWERS
August 6-10 - Park Plaza Hotel, Boston, Massachusetts
The 31st annual NAAEE conference, the "Boston TEE (Total Environmental
Education) Party," will follow four strands, each in some way reflective of
Boston's pivotal place in United States and world history. Each strand will
feature workshops, concurrent sessions, poster sessions, interacts and a
keynote speaker. The strands are EE Through Time, Designing and Planning
Spaces, Environmental Justice and The Role of Higher Education in EE.
NAAEE is seeking presentation proposals and volunteers to assist in the
Presentation Proposal Review Process. Volunteers will be asked to score
about 15 proposals during the first two weeks of February. Multiple
reviewers will examine each proposal.
Presentation proposals are due January 8th. Proposal reviewer applications

4. YOUTH IN ACTION AWARDS
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2002 Youth in Action Awards,
sponsored by the Foundation of America. The project awards $1,000 grants to
ongoing or recently completed youth-initiated projects that have generated
demonstrable results. Awards are distributed in April of each year,
coinciding with the celebration of National and Global Youth Service Day.

5. ENVISION: A REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS
Spring Pre-Institute April 25-27, Summer Institute July 8-30 - Purdue
University, West Lafayette, Indiana
The overall goal of ENVISION is to help middle school teachers (grades 4-9)
integrate hands-on local environmental research into their teaching.
ENVISION training modules use a multidisciplinary approach to the
development of scientific concepts and inquiry skills focusing on Water and
Watersheds, Urban and Built Environments, and Rural Environments.
ENVISION provides a $1200 summer stipend, 6 hours of free graduate credit,
and covers travel, lodging, and meals. Funded by the National Science
Foundation. Application Deadline: February 15th. For more information and

7. NORTH CASCADES GRADUATE PROGRAM IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
In partnership with Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington
University, the North Cascades' two-year program awards a M.Ed. in Natural
Science/Science Education and includes a professional teaching residency in
North Cascades Institute's environmental education programs. The class of
2002-04 will be the first to live and teach at the new North Cascades
Environmental Learning Center, a residential education center scheduled to
open in 2003 in North Cascades National Park.
Applications for the class of 2002- 2004, which will begin courses in June,

8. PENNIES FOR THE PLANET
World Wildlife Fund's 2001-2002 Pennies for the Planet program targets three
outstanding places from the Global 200 - the Galápagos Islands, the Terai
Arc, and the Klamath-Siskiyou Coniferous Forests. The program teaches
students about what biodiversity is, why it's so important, and
international efforts to protect it. Activities and support materials are
available from the Pennies for the Planet web site.

9. NAAEE WEB SITE REVAMPED
NAAEE's web site has been updated, reorganized, and improved! Features
include new graphics, a special section for Affiliate members, and an online
store with select NAAEE publications and birding products from
HomeEarth.com. Future updates will include a member's only site, online
access to the membership database, and other interactive features.
