RESEARCH/PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITIES

1. BIENNIAL CONFERENCE OF THE AQUATIC RESOURCES EDUCATION ASSOCIATION - CALL
FOR PRESENTATIONS
September 28 - October 2 - Chico Hot Springs, Emigrant, Montana

The Aquatic Resources Education Association (AREA) sponsors a conference
every two years for exchanging information about aquatic resources programs,
program management and program evaluation to assist its members in the
administration and delivery aquatic resources education programs.
Presentation proposals should fit into the following categories: program
evaluation, professional development, and/or model programs.

All abstracts must be received no later than May 5th.  Please submit

2. WETLAND PHOTO CONTEST

The Environmental Protection Agency's Wetlands Division is sponsoring a
wetland photography contest focusing on images that show the functions and
values of wetlands.  They are seeking high quality photographs of wetlands
in different regions of the United States and at different seasons of the
year.  The winning photographs will be used to produce an EPA wetland poster
and will be prominently displayed at the National Wetland Awards ceremony in
Washington, DC in May.

The deadline for submission is March 1st.  For more information and details

3. KIDS' SUMMIT ON CONSERVATION

Kids aged 9 to 12 are encouraged to brainstorm ways to help an endangered
animal species in their region by participating in Mutual of Omaha's Wild
Kingdom's essay contest.  To enter, kids simply need to answer in an essay:
"What is one action you can take to help save an endangered animal species
living in your region?"  One young conservationist from each state will be
selected to attend the first-ever Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Kids'
Summit on Conservation in Los Angeles next May.

Essays are due March 15th.  Applications are available online in PDF.

5. IDAHO ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SUMMIT
April 26-7 - Double Tree Hotel Downtown, Boise, Idaho

The annual conference of the Idaho Environmental Education Association
(IdEEA) will focus on the theme "Clear Visions, Clear Voice."  This meeting
will celebrate accomplishments in education about our environment and
provide a forum for statewide planning of such efforts.  The Summit will
also feature displays by education resource providers, presentations of
exemplary environmental education programs, and field trips, including one
examining management of the Boise Foothills.  Continuing education credit
will be available to participating teachers.

Registration fees are $35 until March 1st. For more information, contact the

6. EXPLORE YOUR WORLD! BIODIVERSITY MONTH

"Explore Your World! Biodiversity Month" is a time to celebrate America's
rich diversity of life through educational activities and scientific
exploration.   You can involve your students in "Explore Your World!
Biodiversity Month" by organizing an activity to explore biodiversity for
May 2002. Simply by registering your event with "Biodiversity Month" you can
link your effort to those of others and contribute to a broader
understanding of biodiversity. The "Biodiversity Month" web site offers
suggestions, resources to help you plan an event and teach about
biodiversity, and forms to register with "Biodiversity Month" and report
your results in May.  "Biodiversity Month" is part of the International
Biodiversity Observation Year (IBOY) 2001-2002.

7. MY COMMUNITY, OUR EARTH: GEOGRAPHIC LEARNING FOR
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

"My Community, Our Earth" is a project developed by The National Geographic
Society, The Association of American Geographers, ESRI, and the United
Nations Environment Programme that invites students to use the tools of
geography to examine how their communities can be made healthier and more
livable, and how they can exist in greater harmony with the natural world.

Participants will receive a resource kit, which contains software, maps,
and educational materials about geography, GIS technology, and sustainable
development.  Project submission deadline: May 31st.   A selection of the
projects will be featured on the MyCOE website and will be displayed at
numerous venues, including the World Summit on Sustainable Development in
Johannesburg, South Africa in August 2002.

The NAAEE-Commerce store is now open for business!  Select NAAEE
publications as well as field guides, birding products, environmental
education videos and other educational resources can now be ordered online.
The NAAEE - Commerce store is a joint partnership between NAAEE and
