4. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY BUDGET FY 2005

President Bush released his $2.4 trillion budget for FY2005 on February 2nd.
Following recommendations from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB),
the President's budget does not include funding for EPA's $9 million
environmental education program as it "duplicates state, local and private
efforts to promote schooling about the environment and encourage careers
related to the environment." This marks the third successive year that the
President's budget has cut funds for the EPA's Office of Environmental
Education. Each year funds have been reallocated during the appropriations
process, with leadership from Senators Bond (R-MO), Milkulski (D-MD) and
Stevens (R-AK) and Representatives Walsh (R-NY), Obey (D-WI) and Miller
(D-CA).
