1. NAAEE  ANNUAL CONFERENCE - CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
Submission deadline: April 30, 2004

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is
"Casting a Wider Net for Environmental Education" - Calling on all
Environmental Education Research and Program Leaders. This year's NAAEE
conference has 7 strands. For each of them, we are looking for presentations
that provide one or more of the following elements: Insightful research
findings; Proven program models; Skills development; and Dialogue
facilitation.  Each strand will combine an Opening Symposium, Concurrent
Sessions, and a Closing session for culminating discussions.  The seven
strands are:
- Developing the EE Profession
- The Business of EE - Leadership Development and Institutional Building
- What Research Has to Say to Environmental Educators
- Cultural Diversity in EE Programs
- Sustainability Education
- Topical Smorgasbord Watersheds and Forestry
- The "Open Mic" Strand

GRANTS

2. KODAK AMERICAN GREENWAYS GRANTS
Application deadline: June 1, 2004

The Greenways Awards Program, a partnership of the Eastman Kodak Company,
the Conservation Fund, and the National Geographic Society, provides small
grants to stimulate the planning and design of greenways in communities
throughout America. Grants can be used for all appropriate expenses needed
to complete a greenway project, including planning, technical assistance,
legal, and other costs. The maximum grant award is $2,500, although most
grants will range from $500 to $1,500.

3. CANON ENVIROTHON

Annual competition for high school students throughout North America,
designed as a way to teach kids about environmental education.  The best
teams from 47 states and Canadian provinces compete at a summer play-off
during July or August on a selected topic. To expose students to diverse
environmental issues, ecosystems, and topography, a different state or
province hosts the Canon Envirothon each year. In addition to the actual
competition, the event also includes social, cultural, and educational
activities organized by the Canon Envirothon Host Committee.

4. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY TEACHER GRANTS
Application Deadline: June 10, 2004

The foundation provides grants to educators to facilitate their work in the
classroom, school, district, and community. This year, projects will be
funded in either of two broad categories: Promoting Stewardship of Cultural
and Natural Resources, and Promoting Geographic Knowledge Through Education.
The foundation plans to make approximately $100,000 available, in grants of
up to $5,000 each. Applications may be submitted by a single teacher or by a
project team leader on behalf of a group.

5. SUSTAINABLE SWEDEN STUDY TOUR
August 12-22, 2004

This Tour offers a unique opportunity to witness and gain first-hand insight
into Sweden's extraordinary progress in sustainable development. With time
in both the Stockholm area and northern Sweden, participants see concrete
examples of comprehensive sustainable development in large city, small city
and rural area contexts. Included are intimate visits with municipal,
business and educational leaders from across Sweden, as well as in-depth
workshops regarding the theories and methods behind the good examples.
Sponsored by the Sustainable Sweden Association and conducted in English.

6. GEOEC 2004 CONFERENCE - SACRED SPACES
May 6-9, 2004 - Nordegg, Alberta

The Global, Environmental, and Outdoor Education Council (GEOEC) promotes
quality professional development for teachers in the area of global,
environmental, and outdoor education. This year's conference features
exciting guest speakers and offers a wide range of excellent and stimulating
workshop sessions.

8. 2004 TEACHING NONPROLIFERATION SUMMER INSTITUTE
June 11-June 15 - University of North Carolina at Asheville

University faculty development workshop designed to enable Environmental
Studies & Environmental Science teachers to teach about the environmental
threats of producing, much less using, weapons of mass destruction, & how to
diminish these threats.

9. 2004 LEOPOLD EDUCATION PROJECT (LEP) SPRING WORKSHOPS

Participants will be trained in the LEP curriculum through various indoor

10. ECOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATORS

13. NATURE PROFESSIONAL SERIES:  FIELD BIOLOGY 101
May 14-16, 2004 - Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, Tennessee

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont workshop will introduce
environmental educators to some of the organized research projects that can
be carried out at their own centers. Practice basic field biology methods to
prepare for developing your own studies.

14. SUMMER WRITING INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS AND NONFORMAL EDUCATORS
June 21 - 25, 2004 - Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center,

The Language of Nature: Third Annual summer retreat and writing institute.

15. WATER OUTREACH SYMPOSIUM
June 2-4, 2004 - Madison, Wisconsin

Best Education Practices (BEP) for Water Outreach Professionals Symposium
will engage national Extension water quality coordinators, outreach
professionals, and key stakeholders in fine-tuning Water Outreach National
Facilitation Project products and marketing strategy. Our purpose is to best
assist natural resource professionals in meeting their water management
education and outreach objectives. Symposium sessions will provide a mix of
speakers, paper
presentations, interactive events, poster sessions and networking
opportunities.

16. SUMMER ECOLOGICAL FIELD STUDIES - ON-LINE COURSE
June 14 - July 23, 2004 - Montana State University

This course is designed for educators of children in grades 6-12 to learn
and practice basic ecological field study techniques and integrate them into
their instruction. Conducted during June and July, course focuses on summer
ecological field studies including stream, forest, plant and bird studies.
All studies will be completed outdoors in your local environment. A wide
variety of field study techniques will be presented and the participants
will share the results of the studies. Basic ecological concepts are
presented in the context of the field studies. Participants will have many
opportunities to share their views on a variety of topics related to the
environment and education.

17. THE WILD GIFT

The Wild Gift provides exceptional youth, ages 18-30, a seminal experience
in deep wilderness and encourages their commitment to a self-designed
leadership project that will benefit the human and natural community.  The

18. WILD REPUBLIC LEARNING ADVENTURE

Features lesson plans about nature, animals and their habitat; this year's
focus is on birds. Educators at Audubon provided the necessary content for
the 2003-2004 lesson plans, including puffins, upwelling, coastal food webs
and more.  Each unit is designed to enrich students' knowledge and
understanding of birds, their characteristics and habitats.

19. SCIENCE LESSON PLANS - JOHN MUIR STUDY GUIDE

The Sierra Club announces new standards-aligned Science Lesson Plans (K-12)
inspired by and using John Muir's adventures and explorations. Learning
about John Muir's life can serve as a launching pad to science-based
environmental studies through plant and animal habitats, ecosystems,
earthquakes, avalanches, glaciers, geology, weather, biodiversity, and
forests.
