Deadline: April 9, 2005
K-12 teachers worldwide are invited to apply for grants of $1000 to develop or implement environmental curricula that integrates hands-on ecology exercises into the classroom. Curricula that encourage the integration of multiple disciplines (such as integrating art and science), and which include cooperative work with multiple school districts will be given special consideration.

2. CANON ENVIROTHON
July 18-24, 2005 ~ Springfield, Missouri
An annual competition for high school students throughout North America. Designed as a way to teach kids about environmental education, the best teams from 47 states and Canadian provinces compete at a summer play-off on a selected topic. The 2005 Envirothon topic is "Managing Cultural Landscapes."

7. HABITAT STEWARD CERTIFICATION TRAINING ~ CALIFORNIA
February 14 - June 2, 2005 ~ Pasadena, California
Persons interested in getting certified as a National Wildlife Federation Habitat Steward Volunteer can get more by enrolling in GEOG 10, Human Impact on the Environment at Pasadena City College for Spring 2005. This is an optional assignment to be exempt from one unit test in GEOG 10(class code #4234). The combined GEOG class and Habitat Steward Volunteer training is ideally suited for any person working with youth and a local environmental organization. There are no prerequisites. The 3-credit class meets weekly, Thursday, 6:00 PM- 9:10 PM. Apply online by January 21, 2005 and in person by February 11, 2005.

9. WILDLIFE RECREATION & NATURE TOURISM CERTIFICATE ~ WISCONSIN
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, in partnership with Watchable Wildlife, Inc., has developed a new graduate-level certificate program to help conservationists, community leaders, and recreation and hospitality providers build the skills necessary to effectively preserve the natural resources of and generate jobs and revenue for their communities.

10. EXTENDED MS IN EE FOR TEACHERS ~ WISCONSIN
The Master of Science in Environmental Education for K-12 Teachers is a professional development program for practicing teachers to earn a Master's degree while continuing to teach. It is designed specifically for K-12 Teachers with face to face classes held during a 3 week period of the summer session and one-third of the degree available online during the academic year. Candidates may transfer in up to 9 graduate credits. This degree program is intended to increase knowledge and leadership skills in EE for K-12 teachers. New candidates normally begin coursework in February, but applications are accepted at any time.

13. GRADUATE LEVEL EE COURSE ~ ONLINE

Register now for Winter Ecological Field Studies an on-line graduate level EE course offered by Montana State University. Winter ecological field studies provides an excellent opportunity for environmental educators throughout the world to get outside this winter, have fun, learn practical low cost ecological field study procedures and earn 3 university graduate credits. This course is conducted on-line and has a flexible schedule and format that allows participants to study their local winter ecology and share the results with other educators. Although most participants are typically from North America, in the past students have participated from Asia, Europe and South America! Winter field activities include interesting winter investigations which take advantage of seasonal characteristics including low temperatures and snow. These include: mammal behavior based on snow tracks, snow strata study, and chickadee territoriality.

17. AEOE STATEWIDE CONFERENCE ~ CALIFORNIA
April 15-17, 2005 ~ Petaluma, California
The Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (AEOE) annual statewide conference California’s People and Places: How California’s diverse ecosystems shape our population and how its people shape the landscape, past, present and future. The conference will include over 60 workshops, keynote speakers, entertainment, and a job fair. The conference workshop strands include Historical California: It’s People and their connection to the Environment, California Today: People and our connection to Our Environment, California Neighborhoods and Issues of Environment, Pedagogy/The Art of Teaching, Hands-on Curriculum, Ecosystem Science and Natural History, and Leadership and Diversity.

18. APPLIED EE PROGRAM EVALUATION ~ ONLINE
February 21 - April 29, 2005 ~ Online
Nine-week online course entitled "Applied Environmental Education Program Evaluation" offered through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The course is designed to assist environmental educators and natural resource professionals in evaluating their education programs. Participants have the opportunity to apply skills in designing evaluation tools such as surveys, observation forms, and interview and focus group guides. The course was developed as a cooperative effort between the Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) National Conservation Training Center. Participants may obtain three undergraduate or graduate credits from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. All participants are eligible for the in-state tuition rate. The course is also offered as a non-credit workshop for those who are not seeking college credit.

20. FIT - FORESTRY INSTITUTE FOR TEACHERS 2005 ~ CALIFORNIA

FIT is a free seven day residence program for K-12 teachers in California to be held in June and July, 2005. The goal of the program is to provide teachers with the tools, skills and knowledge to effectively teach their children about forest management and forest ecology.

23. INFORMATION EXCHANGE FOR MARINE EDUCATORS
The National Marine Protected Areas Center supports coastal managers and their coworkers with information, tools, and technology about marine protected areas (MPAs). To support educators, the MPA Center distributes a monthly email newsletter, the Information Exchange for Marine Educators. It includes information about a myriad of different educational programs and activities, funding sources, and professional development opportunities. It is also posted on the MPA.GOV website, along with archives of the information gathered to date. There are over 350 different websites and educational initiatives, most available free on-line. You'll be sure to find something to fascinate your students or help you develop new materials. 24. ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL - WASHINGTON DC
March 10-20, 2005 ~ Washington, DC
The 13th annual Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital will screen 100 documentary, feature, animated, archival and children's films from March 10 through 20, 2005 at a variety of venues throughout Washington, D.C. Screenings are enhanced by discussion with scientists and filmmakers and many are free.
