The American Honda Foundation provides grants to K-12 and higher education programs in the fields of youth education (up to 21) and scientific education.

2. PRESIDENT'S ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH AWARDS
Application Deadline: July 31, 2005
Program available to individuals, classes, and youth groups. Awards are presented in each of the EPA regions, and one project from each region is presented with a national award in Washington DC.

3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUMMER WORKSHOPS ~ CANADA
Summer 2005 ~ Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia, Canada
Environmental Learning Institute and Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is fielding professional development summer workshops offering intermediate-secondary science educators opportunities to learn more about inquiry-based science education philosophy, pedagogy and praxis and global environmental change while learning about a threatened North American ecosystem of global significance. Each course has a dual tract structure in biology and geology allowing the participant to specialize in their discipline of interest. Applications are invited from appropriate pre-service & in-service teachers, education and environment graduate student, science education professors and science education professionals. Recertification and graduate science credits available. Rolling Admissions.

4. ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY COURSE ~ COSTA RICA
July 4-27, 2005 ~ San Ramón, Costa Rica
Application Deadline: May 4, 2005
Earth Education International is offering interdisciplinary short-courses and semester study abroad programs focusing on sustainable global stewardship in Costa Rica. 5. 1 PLANET 1 OCEAN
1 Planet 1 Ocean is a new nonprofit organization founded to explore, restore and sustain the oceans through strong international partnerships, including the Gulf of Mexico and Cuba. In its first major project, the Living Gulf Project, 1planet1ocean is working to make the Gulf of Mexico a model of sustainability and includes a project to explore and protect Cuba’s Gulf of Mexico coast.

6. CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION & OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Conservation International (CI) and worldwide partners working to build the capacity of communities to understand threats to natural resources and to plan for their use and protection. Education programs help integrate scientific knowledge with traditional knowledge, opening paths of dialogue for conservation. 7. INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL CINEMA ~ ITALY
May 27 - June 1, 2005 ~ Palermo, Italy
The first International Festival of environmental cinema - EcoVision will take place in the most prestigious monumental centres of Palermo. The festival subjects are related to the ecosystem dealing with nature and the relationship existing between man and the loss of nature in large urban areas.

8. OUTSIDE MY WINDOW
Outside My Window is a project started by an international relations educator at Evergreen Valley High School in California. This project is designed to help students connect with other people around the world by exchanging photos taken through the windows of their houses and classrooms. To keep this broad and international, the learning standards are from the National Council on Social Studies and fit in with many local standards.

The Fourth Annual Language of Nature Writing Institute Theme: Stepping Off the Path. 18. NATUREMAPPING
Working with local farmers and scientists from the University of Washington-Seattle, fourth graders in Waterville, Washington, track the horny toad, a lizard native to their local community. This truly interdisciplinary project is part of a nationwide initiative called NatureMapping, which combines real-world science with reading, writing, and mathematics.

Call for Presentations "Action in Place: Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability" conference, October 6-9, 2005, Goddard College, Plainfield, Vermont. "Action in Place" will showcase place and regionally based programs and projects promoting sustainability, as well as provide a forum for discussion of related ideas and issues.
