4. A RESOURCE YOU CAN USE: MATERIALS GUIDELINES FOR EE
Looking for a resource that can help you develop quality environmental
education materials? Well, look no further. The National Project for
Excellence in Environmental Education (NPEEE), an initiative of NAAEE,
has recently revised and reprinted "Environmental Education Materials:
Guidelines for Excellence." The Materials Guidelines provide a set of
recommendations to help developers of activity guides, lesson plans, and
other instructional materials produce high quality products and to help
educators evaluate the wide array of available environmental education
materials.
The Material Guidelines and other publications in the Guidelines for
Excellence series are downloadable free of charge from the NAAEE

5. ART CONTEST FOR STUDENTS GRADES 2-4
Deadline: November 9, 2005
10th Annual Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Art
Contest for U.S. students in grades 2-4. This years’ theme is
"Connect-4: Air, Land, Water and Life." 1st place winning entry will be
printed as the 2005 IGES greeting card and the artist will receive a
$250 savings bond. 2nd place winner receives a $100 savings bond,
3rd place receives a $50 savings bond, and all entrants receive a
certificate of participation.

6. 2006 YOUNG NATURALIST AWARDS
Deadline: January 6, 2006
The American Museum of Natural History 2006 Young Naturalist Awards
invites students in grades 7-12 to participate in a research-based essay
contest to promote participation and communication in science. Two
winners from each grade will be selected to receive cash scholarship
awards and an expense-paid trip to New York City for the awards ceremony.

7. EPA EE GRANT PROGRAM FOR 2006

The EPA Environmental Education Grants Program is seeking grant
proposals that support environmental education projects that promote and

The Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center (ATEEC) announces
that applications are open for the 12th ATEEC Fellows Institute to be

International Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection
(EnviroInfo-2006). EnviroInfo-2006 focuses on the role of knowledge
management in advocating sustainability and environmental protection. In
2006, the 20th anniversary will be celebrated September 6-8, 2006 in
Graz, Austria, continuing the successful tradition of exchanging
environmental knowledge among the scientific community, public
administrations, NGOs, companies, and the end-users of environmental

12. IP DEDICATES JOHN DILLON PARK
Through a partnership between International Paper (IP), Paul Smith's
College and the state of New York in tribute to retired IP Chairman and
PSC alumnus John T. Dillon, the International Paper John Dillon Park, a
15,800-acre conservation easement in New York, was donated at a
dedication ceremony on October 10th. Scheduled to open in Spring 2006,
the park is located in the central Adirondack Mountains and among other
amenities will provide facilities designed to accommodate people with
disabilities. Park facilities will be managed and maintained by students
of Paul Smith’s College through a $1.5 million endowment, giving
students hands-on experience in managing outdoor recreation for people
with disabilities, while learning about forest management and conservation.

June 13-16, 2006 ~ Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Fourth NEW-CUE Writers' Conference and Workshop honoring Rachel Carson
and featuring the work of Henry David Thoreau is for new and experienced
writers, educators and interested individuals. The program will include
presentations by award-winning authors, readings by participants whose
work have been selected in response to our Call for Submissions,
workshops, and guided outdoor activities, including a trip to the Burnt
Island Lighthouse.

14. JOHNSON CONTROLS DEVELOPS NEW SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATION PROGRAM
New Sustainability Energy Education & Communications (SEEC) program
developed by Johnson Controls for business and government employees is
designed to help companies move toward sustainability practices and
understand the environmental, social, and financial benefits. The SEEC
10-module series of lessons was developed in cooperation with the
National Energy Foundation using the North American Association for
Environmental Education (NAAEE)'s Environmental Education Materials:

15. MASTERS PROGRAM IN CLIMATE SCIENCE & POLICY
Columbia University's new one-year Masters Program in Climate Science
and Policy trains professionals and academics to understand and manage
climate risk. This rigorous program emphasizes the problems of
developing societies. Now in its second year, the program is expanding

16. APPLIED EE PROGRAM EVALUATION ~ ONLINE

This 10-week online course is designed to assist environmental educators
and natural resource professionals in evaluating their education
programs. Developed as a cooperative effort between the Environmental
Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)
National Conservation Training Center. Participants may obtain three
undergraduate or graduate credits from the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point or take the course as a non-credit workshop. All
participants are eligible for the in-state tuition rate.

governments of the United States and Canada to determine the future of

20. GO WILD IN NEW YORK CITY
"Go Wild in New York City" (National Geographic, 2005) is an
action-packed, kid-focused introduction to the ecology of cities. The
book combines basic science with mind-bending city-specific facts and
photos (including child-pleasing spreads on cockroaches, rats and
squirrels; and sidebars on topics like horse manure, trash and worms)
and junior citizen scientist projects. Extensive online and offline
resources are provided in the end pages, and the book's Web site
features chapter-specific teaching plans created for GO WILD by the

22. ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS VIDEO SERIES
New video series "Environmental Ethics: Examining Your Connection to the
Environment and Your Community" focuses on environmental topics
(wildlife, forests, water, air, minerals) and related ethical debates.
Curriculum is aligned to national standards of education for grades 9-12
and includes teachers’ guides and student workbooks.

23. TERRAIN FOR SCHOOLS
Education program contains science, social studies, and language arts
