6. ADOBE COMMUNITY ACTION GRANTS
Quarterly Application Deadlines: 12/31/05; 3/31/06; 6/30/06; 9/30/06
Adobe Systems awards one-time grants for one year general operating
and program support ranging from $5,000-$20,000. Focus areas include
Creativity in Education and Commitment to Community. Eligible non-profit
organizations and schools must be located in one of the following areas:
San Jose/Silicon Valley, California; Seattle/King County, Washington;
and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

7. CALIFORNIA COASTAL ART & POETRY CONTEST

California Coastal Commission Art & Poetry Contest for K-12 California
students to submit artwork or poetry with a California coastal or marine

8. DOE FUNDING FOR HIGHER ED INT'L STUDIES PROGRAMS
Application Deadline: November 17, 2005
Extended Application Deadline: December 1, 2005 (for applicants affected
by Hurricanes Katrina and/or Rita)
This Department of Education annual award for Higher Education
Institutions Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language
Programs provides funds to higher ed institutions, or partnerships
between nonprofit educational organizations and higher ed institutions
to plan, develop, and implement programs to strengthen and improve
undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages.

9. EARTHWATCH EDUCATOR FELLOWSHIP AWARDS
Awarded through a competitive application process, the Earthwatch
Educator Fellowship Awards are considered based on geographic region,
financial need, and the benefits that would result from participating
in an expedition. Elementary, middle, and high school educators and
administrators of any discipline are eligible to apply. Applications
accepted on a rolling basis.

10. EETAP OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ONLINE COURSES
Scholarship Application Deadline: December 16, 2005
The Environmental Education & Training Partnership (EETAP) has a limited
number of scholarships available to EE leaders interested in taking the
online "Applied EE Program" (February 20 – May 5) or "Fundamentals of
EE" (February 6 – April 21) courses. The qualifications for and amount
of each scholarship are different for the two courses.

11. INTERNATIONAL PAINTING COMPETITION
Deadline: January 20, 2006
15th International Painting Competition on the Environment: "Deserts,
Drylands and Desertification Through the Eyes of Children." Children
(ages 6-14) around the world are invited to express their views about
the future of the world's deserts and the issue of desertification.

12. INTERNATIONAL YOUNG ECO-HERO AWARDS
Deadline: February 28, 2006
Do you know any YOUNG ECO-HEROES aged 8 to 16 years? Please let them
know about Action For Nature's 2006 International Young Eco-Hero awards
program. Winners receive a cash prize and recognition for their
environmental accomplishments. The award promotes individual action
concerning environmental protection and advocacy, environmental health

13. SUMMER OPPORTUNITY FOR HS STUDENTS
Application Deadline: February 15, 2006
The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program, sponsored by the American
Fisheries Society, is designed to stimulate interest in careers in
fisheries science and management among groups underrepresented in the
fisheries professions, including minorities and women. Students (Grades
10-12) spend 8 weeks in the summer working alongside their mentor who is
a fisheries professional in their local community. Participants receive
a $3,000 scholarship paid out in 6 installments over the summer months.

14. WATER ART CONTEST ~ ALASKA
Deadline: February 25, 2006
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game invites Alaska students in grades
3-6 to participate in the annual Alaska Water Education Poster Contest.
The 2005-06 theme is: "Water Flowing Through Our Lives." Winning
entrants and their sponsoring schools receive cash prizes. When
schedules have permitted, the Governor of Alaska has participated in
award ceremonies to personally congratulate the student winners.

15. 2006 AF&PA RECYCLING AWARDS
Deadline: February 17, 2006
The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Recycling Awards
encourage and recognize outstanding recycling programs that promote the
recovery of high quality paper. The 2006 awards will recognize an
individual, two businesses (small and large), two communities (small and
large) and two schools. The School Recycling Awards recognize schools
that have implemented successful recycling programs with a monetary
prize and framed original artwork, given to a classroom recycling
program and a school-wide recycling program.

17. SERVICE LEARNING IN THE AMAZON
1) 8-day Amazon Rainforest Workshop for teachers, students, families,
June 15, June 25, or July 5, 2006: Experience a 1/4 mile Rainforest
canopy walkway, get involved in a village service project, and see how
indigenous cultures use the forest for medicine, food, and shelter.
2) Amazon Rainforest Workshop for K-12 educators, July 7-16, 2006: A
professional development opportunity for teachers to work side-by-side
with a spirited faculty of scientists.

18. THE ENVIROSCHOOLS FOUNDATION ~ NEW ZEALAND
The Enviroschools Foundation provides support and strategic direction
for a nationwide sustainable schools programme. Through the
Enviroschools approach students develop skills, understanding, knowledge
and confidence through planning, designing and creating a sustainable
school. Action projects undertaken by enviroschools have both
environmental and educational outcomes that benefit the school and the
wider community. The Facilitated Enviroschools Programme is a three year
environmental learning and action process, providing the involved
schools an extensive resource kit and a trained facilitator. The
Enviroschools Awards Scheme is an incentive program designed for schools
to become actively involved in environmental education through various

This three day course (OUT 8162) presents participants with the elements
of designing outdoor programs for youth (e.g. after school, day and
residential camps, and weekend programs) in a non-formal setting, such

model to work on their own youth program during the course, then
complete and implement it as a required post-course assignment.

27. ASTRONOMY FROM THE GROUND UP!
The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Division of Informal Science
Education has awarded the Astronomical Society of the Pacific a major
grant to help launch Astronomy From the Ground Up! (AFGU), a new
professional development program for educators at science centers,
nature centers, and natural history museums across the country. Special
Note to ISE Professionals in the Southwest -- The first AFGU workshop
will be held in Tucson, Arizona, April 19-21, 2006.

Protection Agency’s "life cycle poster series" teaches students to
understand the environmental impacts of everyday products. These posters

transported, how to maximize their useful life, and what happens to them
