5. CHARITABLE TRUST OFFERS INTEREST FREE ED LOANS
Deadline:  April 15, 2006
The Evalee C. Schwarz Charitable Trust for Education provides
interest-free loans ($5,000 - $15,000) to undergrad and grad students
demonstrating exceptional academic performance - outstanding combination
of standardized test scores (top 10% nationally); and financial need.

6. HUTTON JUNIOR FISHERIES BIOLOGY PROGRAM
Application Deadline:  February 15, 2006
This summer opportunity for high school students is sponsored by the
American Fisheries Society. Students (grades 10-12) spend 8 weeks in the
summer working alongside a mentor who is a fisheries professional in
their local community.  Participants receive a $3,000 scholarship paid
out in 6 installments over the summer months.

8. UNSUNG HEROES AWARDS
Deadline:  May 1, 2006
The Ing Unsung Heroes Awards are given to K-12 educators pioneering new
methods and techniques that improve student learning. 100 finalists will
receive an award of $2,000. 1st place receives $25,000; 2nd place
$10,000; and 3rd place $5,000.

9. 2006 OKLAHOMA ASSOCIATION FOR EE EXPO
February 16, 2006 ~ Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
OKAEE 2006 conference theme is "Celebrating Oklahoma’s Biodiversity."
Mile for mile, Oklahoma offers the nation’s most diverse terrain -
everything from Rocky Mountain foothills to cypress swamps, tall grass
prairies, and hardwood forests to pine-covered mountains. Join OKAEE in

10. APPLIED EE PROGRAM EVALUATION ~ ONLINE
Deadline:  February 20, 2006
February 20 – May 5, 2006 ~ Online
This 10-week online EETAP course is designed to assist environmental
educators and natural resource professionals in evaluating their
education programs. All participants are eligible for the in-state
tuition rate and may obtain 3 undergrad or grad credits from the Univ.
of Wisconsin-Stevens Point or take the course as a non-credit workshop.

11. ASTRONOMY FROM THE GROUND UP ~ ARIZONA
April 19-21, 2006 ~ Tucson, Arizona
Applications are still being accepted for a limited time for the
Astronomy from the Ground Up program's first workshop. Informal
Educators in the Southwest are especially encouraged to apply at this
time. Other applicants will be considered for onsite workshops in
Boston, St. Louis, Durham and Seattle, as well as multiple Distance
Learning workshops.

12. FUNDAMENTALS OF EE COURSE ~ ONLINE
Deadline:  February 6, 2006
February 6 – April 21, 2006 ~ Online
10-week EETAP online course about the fundamentals of environmental
education is appropriate for both classroom teachers and for non-formal
educators who work with students and/or teachers. All students are
eligible for the in-state tuition rate and 3 undergrad or grad credits
from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Stevens Point or take the course as a
non-credit workshop.

13. HIGHER EDUCATION SUSTAINABILITY ACT (HESA)
HESA funding would provide up to $50 million in grants to colleges and
universities and non-profits operating as a partnership of higher
education institutions. Sponsored by Representatives Earl Blumenauer
(D-OR), Vernon Ehlers (R-MI), David Wu (D-OR), Chaka Fattah (D-PA), and
G.K. Butterfield (D-NC).

14. WILDERNESS MANAGEMENT COURSE ~ ONLINE
Deadline:  January 12, 2006
January 23 - May 6, 2006 ~ Online
Managing Recreation Resources in Wilderness (3 credits UG) through the
Wilderness Management Distance Education Program, University  of
Montana.  This course examines recreation management in a wilderness
setting.

15. EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH: SCHOOL'S OUT! ~ WEST VIRGINIA
Registration Deadline:  January 23, 2006
March 20-22, 2006 ~ Shepherdstown, West Virginia
Course presents elements of designing outdoor programs for youth in a
non-formal setting, such as wildlife refuges and parks. The course
offers opportunities to create or modify youth programs and staff
training for these programs that help address site missions and/or
natural resource management objectives using a program design and
evaluation model.

Request for information for a UNESCO-IUCN (World Conservation Union)
project which is seeking to develop indicators for monitoring progress

18. NEW CONSERVATION RADIO SHOW ~ KS, CO, OK, TX
New radio show "Playa Country" produced by the Playa Lakes Joint Venture
(PLJV) focuses on wildlife habitat conservation efforts in the High
Plains. The show features the people, communities and programs that are
making a difference in the conservation of playas, other wetlands and
prairies in the six-state playa lakes region.

20. TEACHERS - KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!
Remember that the tax legislation signed into law by President Bush
includes an extension of the deduction for teachers for the first $250
"out-of-pocket" expenses spent on instructional materials and classroom
supplies. There is an initiative to increase it to $400/year.  Check it out!

21. WAVE THAT SHOOK THE WORLD
Nova Web site based on the PBS television program and tells the story of
the 2004 tsunami that spread for 3,000 miles around the Indian Ocean
