Spring 2008 EE and Diversity Installment Now Available
The newest installment of EE and Diversity titled The White Perspective has been posted on the NAAEE Web site.

The spring 2008 edition examines race and white privilege. The posting includes an excerpt from Robert Jensen’s book The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege, City Lights Books, 2005. This piece examines the various fears that keep white people from asking themselves the difficult questions. Not asking such questions helps maintain the racist practices and systems that permeate American society. Another section reports on a program broadcast by PBS that asked: What is race? While there is no biological basis for the concept, race continues to affect most aspects of American society. Another section of the installment highlights an excellent Web site with tools for evaluating racial equity.

New EE and Diversity Installment Now Online
This newest online installment on EE and Diversity focuses on how other sectors such as environmental justice, health, and education view environmental issues.

This installment is divided into six areas:

·Community Assessments ·Articles of Interest ·Vignette ·Mini-Lesson ·Success Stories ·Links

No matter what the sector, everyone agrees an assessment is an essential precursor to working in a community. What questions are asked and how the assessment is conducted reflect the priorities of the group doing the assessment. The annotated list of assessments provided in the installment will give you insight into other sectors’ views of environment.

The Articles of Interest features, "The New Environmentalists: How to Make the Green Movement Less White," by Van Jones. The article makes a strong case for why persons of color need to be concerned and involved with environmental issues. At the same time it examines the forces that have created what until recently has been primarily an upper middle class white movement. Van Jones declares that Black is the New Green.
