Brimstone Award for Applied Storytelling
Applications will be received in two rounds: preliminary proposals will be due by e-mail no later than Monday, September 13, 2004, and full proposals invited for the final round will be due by Monday, October 25. The National Storytelling Network is pleased to announce the first annual Brimstone Award for Applied Storytelling, a grant of $5000 for a project that will be completed in calendar year 2005. The award will be announced by December 1. Taking its name from "brimstone" —the elusive element medieval alchemists believed would transform base metals into gold —this award focuses on the transformational properties of storytelling, and aims to increase understanding of the ways storytelling can promote change in individuals and communities. Environmental Educators are invited to submit a storytelling project that is service-oriented, based in a community or organization, and to some extent replicable in other places and situations. The hope is that projects receiving this award will have impact beyond their own communities, organizations, or clients, inspiring excellence in applied storytelling work and communicating to new audiences the humanitarian possibilities of storytelling.
