The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) Program will bring together a network of junior scholars, professionals, and mid-career applied researchers from the United States and other Western Hemisphere nations for series of three seminar meetings and a Fulbright exchange experience. Scholars will spend up to one year engaged in collaborative thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and multi-disciplinary research in one of three inter-related topics of regional significance: science, technology and innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable energy.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is accepting applications for a scholarship program in honor of retired South Carolina senator Ernest F. Hollings, who promoted ocean and atmospheric study and research throughout his career. The 2007 NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program will provide approximately 100 college undergraduates up to $29,000 to further their academic studies related to NOAA science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities; and to offer a related summer internship designed to provide "hands-on" multi-disciplinary training.

The University of Virginia’s Institute for Environmental Negotiation has established the Gerald P. McCarthy Award for Leadership in Environmental Conflict Resolution in honor of Gerald P. McCarthy, executive director of the Virginia Environmental Endowment for his leadership in fostering environmental mediation and protection of Virginia’s environment. It will be awarded annually to recognize an individual, organization, agency, educational institutions or community that fosters collaboration and has taken a leadership role in preserving and protecting Virginia’s environment.
