Castles to visit in the Eure department by David Mercier DGS

In the Haute-Normandie region, the inhabitants are proud of their heritage. Indeed, they not only have the most beautiful villages in France: Giverny, Saint-Georges-du-Vièvre, Lyons-la-Forêt, Bec-Hellouin, the Abbey of Mortemer… they also have magnificent castles. According to David Mercier DGS, there are three castles that are unmissable. And in the latter’s Linkedin profile, we can see that he makes sure that these heritages do not sink into oblivion.

Bizy Castle in Vernon

Bizy Castle was built in 1675. It is located in Vernon, Avenue Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny ave, 27200. Note that the castle is open to tourists only on guided tours. It has very beautiful gardens which are free to access. In the castle, the park is divided into two spaces: the visit of the fountains, the promenade of Venus which leads directly to the Seine. Inside the castle, there is also a shop and a tea room. In April 2013, the château received the Normandy Quality Tourism Label from the Eure Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Gaillard Castle

Château Gaillard by Richard Coeur de Lion is one of the most beautiful castles in the Eure department. Even if this fortress is already in ruins, it still remains imposing and majestic. What differentiates Château Gaillard from the others is that it offers a beautiful view of one of the meanders of the Seine in Les Andelys. Although it was considered among the most invincible castles, it fell into the hands of the French in 1204. For those who do not know, Château Gaillard is located at 27700 Les Andelys.

Ranked among the most beautiful castles in the Eure department, the Château de Beaumesnil was built in 1640 by Jacques de Norant. What differentiates it from the others is that it is surrounded by water. Among the major assets of this castle, there is its impressive staircase, its bedrooms and dining rooms which have preserved their period style. Near the castle, there are small French gardens, ideal for those who like to take walks. This list of David Mercier DGS is not exhaustive. Indeed, there are still other interesting castles such as Château d’Amecourt, Château de Canteloup in Amfreville-sous-les-Monts, Château d’Acquigny, Château de Champs de Bataille in Neubourg, etc.

It is important to specify that the department is only one hour from Paris.
